TORNO AND MONTE PIATTO
If you are in Como, we suggest half-day excursions: short and pleasant walks.
Time: about 4 hours
Itinerary: Como – Torno – Monte Piatto – Piazzaga
The itinerary begins in Torno, one of the most characteristic villages that overlook this stretch of lake, reachable by bus or boat (for information and timetables visit the site of the Navigazione del Lago di Como).
The bus allows you to get directly to the town square, while the boat arrives at the port and you have to go up the narrow streets of the village to get to the square.
This itinerary increases by about ten minutes, but it is definitely worth it.
From the square an uphill path leads to the Largo degli Alpini square. From here, take the muletrack to the right that allows you to reach Monte Piatto (610 meters) in about an hour.
Once you arrive, continue following the signs for the church, from where you can admire a wonderful view.
From there we proceed on the path that leads to the Pietra Pendula, a gigantic erratic boulder shaped like a mushroom, so called for the apparent instability.
The itinerary ends returning to Torno from an alternative road that leads to Piazzaga, where it is possible to stop for lunch in a typical trattoria.
On the road there is also a detour, which we recommend, to go see the boulders, funerary monuments dug in the shape of a “tub” inside large erratic boulders.
