Balcony of Italy – Lake Como
The Belvedere della Sighignola in the Province of Como is called the Balcony of Italy and from here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Alps.
The Sighignola is a mountain of the Lugano Prealps, 1320 meters high that is located on the Italian – Swiss border.
The summit, which is also the highlight of the Val d’Intelvi, can be reached by car starting from the town of Lanzo through a rather winding road, built on the eve of the First World War as part of the construction of the Italian defensive system known as the Cadorna Line.
On the top is a panoramic terrace, the Belvedere della Sighignola, which offers a spectacular view of Lake Lugano and the mountains: from the nearby Ceresio to several peaks of the Alps (Monte Rosa and Cervino).
For this reason this place is called “Balcony of Italy”.
